Police officers from South Wales Police's Joint Firearms Unit were threatened with what appeared to be firearms this morning in Barry.

Thankfully, SWP revealed on social media, the firearms were not real.

This was unbeknowst to the officers at the time, who used expert threat assessments to bring the incident to a safe ending.

A 29 year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody.

"Everyday our officers have to make split second decision using their skills, training and professional judgement," said SWP.

"Thankfully situations like this are very rare."
