A 16-year-old from Penarth has admitted to spraying the 'SOSO' graffiti tag, which appeared across Barry last month.

The youth handed himself in to Barry Police Station after South Wales Police issued CCTV images of individuals captured spraying the tag on Holton Road in Barry on 13 May.

According to the police, the teenager fully admitted to the crime and apologised.

The matter is being considered by the Youth Offending Team.

"This tag and others including 'BBS' and 'DESSO' have damaged a number of properties recently causing considerable expense for the Vale of Glamorgan Council," South Wales Police posted on social media.

"Graffiti is a real blight on our community and we are grateful for those who shared our appeal and contacted us with information."

Following the CCTV appeal, Nub News spoke with the owner of a local shop that had been tagged.

She described the impact graffiti has on those targeted, and wished to remain anonymous.

"I've seen lots of shops disappearing over the years, and this gives us a bad name," she said.

"I've always been proud to live in Barry, but now I see all of this, and it does give a bad impression.

"It makes the good people of Barry feel ashamed."
