A primary school in South Wales that was damaged by bad weather over the winter has been given a lifeline thanks to one of the UK's leading housebuilders.

Cadoxton Primary School in Barry has been awarded a £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes East Wales as the builder continues to support community groups and charities in the area.

Persimmon donates up to £64,000 a month across the UK to fund local initiatives as part of its Community Champions scheme.

The school works in partnership with parents and the wider community, developing a love of learning aimed at supporting children with the tools they need to succeed in life.

Jordan Dent, of Cadoxton Primary, said: "We are delighted to receive this generous donation from Persimmon Homes as it will help us to develop our outdoor learning environment in the reception area.

"Recently the outdoor playhouse was damaged through damp and bad winter weather.

"The children have also planned an outdoor veg shop to raise funds towards gaining a new playhouse and this news will certainly give them an added boost."

Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: "The Community Champions scheme was designed to benefit local good causes and Cadoxton Primary School fits the bill perfectly.

"When we heard about the recent damage they'd suffered we knew we had to try and help them out in any way we could. Hopefully this donation will go a long way in reinstating an outdoor playhouse for the children to use and enjoy."

Persimmon Homes is currently building houses and apartments as part of the major waterside regeneration project in Barry.

Persimmon's Haven Point development is a collection of one and two-bed apartments, ideal for first time buyers and those looking for modern living in a sought-after waterfront location.
