SOUTH Wales Police say they stopped "large groups" travelling from Barry to Penarth this weekend.

A Tweet from the Vale of Glamorgan South Wales Police account said that Penarth Neighbourhood Policing Team "worked successfully with British Transport Police to stop a number of large groups making their way to Penarth from Barry."

Police took their details and educated the groups about Covid regulations and anti-social behaviour.

South Wales Police launched an "operation" this weekend after anti-social behaviour, underage drinking and violence erupted in Penarth town centre on Saturday 14 November.

Fireworks were thrown and a police officer was assaulted, leading to three youths being arrested for "various offences".

A police spokesperson told Nub News that additional officers wouldl be on patrol this weekend and the force's CCTV van would be used as a deterrent.

British Transport Police were called to support this weekend's operation.

School liaison officers also attended secondary schools to provide a lesson on the dangers of fireworks and to educate pupils on what they can expect if they are found to be committing anti-social behaviour.
