Will the Star Flyer Stay on Barry Island'

By The Editor 27th Aug 2019

Barry Island Pleasure Park has applied for planning permission to keep the popular Star Flyer ride as a permanent attraction.

The ride was installed at the beginning of July and was meant to be a temporary summer addition for Barry Island residents and visitors.

An application has now been made requesting that the ride becomes a permanent feature of the park.

The proposal states that: ''the ride is very popular and is bringing in many more visitors to the park, giving us a much needed boost.

''It is both very different in looks and ride experience and we must give variety so we can compete effectively within the amusement park sector.''

Initially, the park had asked for an extension on the ride's planning permission, applying for it to remain until September 31st.

Barry Town Council had no objections to the temporary extension of the ride as long as the structure began being dismantled after 30th September 2019 and the relevant works be fully completed by 30th October 2019.

They have not yet commented on the new permanent application that has been made.

Barry Town Council also asked the Vale of Glamorgan planning department to consult Cardiff Airport authorities to seek their comments/advice on the proposals due to the scale and height of the ride.

The application has been submitted to council but a decision is yet to be made by the planning committee.
