The Vale of Glamorgan Council has been granted permission for the starflyer ride to become a permanent attraction at Barry Island Pleasure Park.

The ride was installed at the beginning of July and was meant to be a temporary summer addition for Barry Island residents and visitors.

The application for its permanent residency stated that: ''the ride is very popular and is bringing in many more visitors to the park, giving us a much needed boost.

''It is both very different in looks and ride experience and we must give variety so we can compete effectively within the amusement park sector.''

The reasons for approving were detailed in the decision notice. It stated: ''The Development Plan comprises the Vale of Glamorgan Adopted Local Development Plan 2011-2026.

''It is considered that the decision complies with the Council's well-being objectives and the sustainable development principle in accordance with the requirements of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

It continues: ''The development is considered acceptable in terms of its size, design, impact on the

Barry Marine Conservation Area and impact on the amenity of neighbouring properties.'' The application was approved alongside the condition that the ''lights incorporated in the Starflyer ride, hereby approved, will not operate outside of the hours when Barry Island Pleasure Park is open and the ride is in operation, except for any lighting required for safety reasons to indicate the top of the structure.''
