Officers in Barry would like to thank residents who were temporarily evacuated from their homes during a police incident yesterday.

Armed officers were deployed to North Walk in the Colcot area at around 2.10pm, to assist divisional officers with arrest enquiries relating to an earlier incident.

The suspect refused to cooperate with officers and a police negotiator and partners from utility companies were also called to the scene due to threats made by the man.

A number of neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precautionary measure, and those affected are thanked for their patience, cooperation and support.

A 25-year-old man was subsequently safely arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, shortly after 6pm. He currently remains in custody in Bridgend.
