A father and daughter duo from Penarth are walking two miles every day this month to raise money for Vale Plus, the Barry-based day centre for disabled people.

Anna Musson, who has down's syndrome, and her father Tim will two miles throughout March (come rain or shine) to help Vale Plus recover from a difficult year.

"Please help me raise money for Vale Plus," Anna tells Nub News as she embarks on her first walk of March.

"They are so kind to me."

Vale Plus is a Charity that provides training, social and lifelong learning skills for adults with additional learning needs.

They have three training sites in Barry and one in Llantwit Major, supporting learners from across the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff.

Due to the pandemic, they have been unable to operate face-to-face.

However, they have continued to offer a 'weekly telephone befriending service', distribute learning packages, conduct Zoom teaching sessions and run exercise classes.

With the help of Fareshare and Adsa, they have also been able to provide weekly food parcels to their most vulnerable families.

All this in spite of their income streams have drying up, such as their transportation service and cafe.

"We are so proud of Anna and how she has adapted to the change of our service over the past year," Vale Plus charity administrator Sarah Philipps tells Nub News.

"It has been a really difficult year for all of our students, but they have all been incredible, how they have coped with the change and getting involved with new ways of learning

"With Anna in particular, we have seen such an improvement in her confidence and skills.

"It been amazing to see her develop and overcome the challenges that we are all facing today."

Anna's mother, Jane, explains how important Vale Plus is to the families they support.

"They are a wonderful organisation who have helped Anna enormously.

"Part of the idea of Vale Plus is to get the youngsters into work. Obviously not all of them will be able to do that, but the education just helps them enjoy life a little more and develop skills.

"They also make friends and the staff are so supportive.

"To keep an organisation like Vale Plus going during lockdown isn't easy, so whatever we raise will make a big difference.

"If we could raise £100 that would be wonderful. Any more would be beyond our dreams."
