Competition to find best Christmas shop window in Barry

Local News by Ellyn Wright 15th Dec 2020

LOCAL traders can enter a competition run by Barry Shop Local to decide the best Christmas window display.

To enter, business owners should post a photograph of their window display to the Barry Shop Local Facebook page .

Barry Shop Local will create an album, and the public will vote for their favourite window displays.

Then Barry Mayor Margaret Wilkinson will choose the winner from the top five entries.

Chair of Barry Shop Local, Councillor Sandra Perkes said the competition was in place of the usual town festivities that cannot go ahead due to Coronavirus.

"There are so many different festivities we normally have, and it will be really different this year," said Cllr Perkes.

"We can't have mass gathering, so we thought this was a different way of making the streets more Christmassy and encourage people into the shopping areas.

"We want to support our local businesses to ensure that they can continue. If this helps in a small way by highlighting the variety of shops that we have, then that's great," she said.

The competition will run until 31 December, with a winner announced in the New Year.
