Boy critically injured in suspected Port Road East hit and run

A 16-year-old boy is in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Port Road East in the early hours of this morning.
It is thought that the car failed to stop at the scene after colliding with the boy at "approximately 4.05am" near Pencoedtre High School and the traffic light junction with Pencoedtre Road.
South Wales Police are investigating the incident and urge motorists to avoid the area.
"It is believed that a 16-year-old boy has been in a collision with a motor vehicle which has failed to stop at the scene, leaving the boy critically injured in the carriageway," they stated in a social media post.
"Emergency services attended at the scene and he was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious, but stable condition.
It is believed the vehicle involved has travelled eastbound along the A4050 after the collision has occurred. The road currently remains closed whilst the police carry out investigations. Officers would like to thank members of the public for their patience during the road closures." Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time that may have witnessed the incident, the movements of the victim, or any vehicles in the area at the time. We are also appealing for any CCTV or dash cam footage from the area."
