The Train Shed is set to become the latest regeneration project in Barry Waterfront's Innovation Quarter (IQ) after the Vale of Glamorgan Council marketed the building for commercial and leisure use.

Forming part of the Business Service Centre 2 (BSC2), the premises had previously been let to Barry Railway Engineering Company and is positioned to the rear of the Pumphouse.

A 19th Century building with major historical significance, the Pumphouse spearheaded regeneration activity in the IQ.

It has become home to the award-winning Hang Fire Southern Kitchen, Academy espresso bar and other businesses.

The Goodsheds, a former railway storage building on Hood Road, has also been converted into a shipping container village of office space, retail units, restaurants and a coffee shop alongside an apartment complex.

Further exciting developments in the pipeline for the IQ include a new primary school and refurbished units at the BSC2, which will offer quality office accommodation.

The Council is also in negotiations with Cardiff and Vale College who hope to deliver a multi-million pound state-of-the-art college campus on a nearby site.

Covering 1,500 square metres, the Train Shed is a unique space with room to accommodate a variety of uses.

The IQ is joint venture between the Council and Welsh Government located between Barry island and the Waterfront.

Cllr Lis Burnett, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: "The IQ has benefitted from significant investment over the last few years and the Train Shed could be the next major regeneration project for the area.

"Set among other similar enterprises, this building offers an opportunity for independent businesses to grow and develop in Barry, providing jobs and boosting the economy.

"It is yet another example of successful partnership working between the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Welsh Government and the private sector."
