Barry's Alexandra Gardens Gets Some Tree Based TLC

Volunteers from Barry Action for Nature braved icy winds while planting 400 native saplings in Alexandra Gardens in Barry.

The group had recently surveyed all of Barry's parks and ranked them in their value to nature.

Alas Alexandra Gardens came bottom of the list, so members of Barry Action for Nature decided to take action and support the park with some tree planting.

The trees were donated by the Woodland Trust and the Women's Institute (WI) who donated three large birch trees.

This new tree line will now help filter traffic fumes and noise from the busy Jenner Rd as well as provide a home for wildlife.

The Chairman of Barry Action for Nature added:

"I would like to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard to plant so many trees. Their work will now benefit both wildlife and people. ''By working with the Vale Council, the Woodland Trust and the WI we have managed to transform this park for future generations."
