Sadly, this will come as no surprise... Barry is among the wettest seaside towns in England and Wales.

This according to research conducted by hotel booking platform Hoo.

The travel industry newcomer set out to show the driest seaside staycation destinations in the UK by analysing annual rainfall across 51 coastal towns.

In doing so, they made the welcome discovery that 90% of the largest seaside towns experience lower rainfall than the national average of 938 millimetres per annum.

However, they also proved what many of us have long-suspected - Barry is an inordinately wet place.

Our town came fourth in the wettest town list, getting drenched in a whopping 999mm of rainfall per annum according to rainfall data sourced from the Met Office.

Neighbouring Penarth was named the wettest town, coming in at an absolutely soaking 1152mm.

The best bet for a rain-free staycation is Essex, home to the top three seaside towns with the lowest levels of rain per year.

Southend-on-Sea ranks top with an average of just 515mm, with Clacton-on-Sea (549mm) and nearby Felixstowe (561mm) also offering the best chance of staying dry this summer.
