Barry Hospital's information centre has received a Carer Friendly Accreditation award during Carers Week.

Only six Carer Friendly Accreditations were presented during this round of awards and out of those six, five were awarded to the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Sarah Davies who led on the accreditations collected three of the six awards for Barry Hospital, University Hospital Llandough and University hospital of Wales.

The Carer Friendly Accreditation scheme aims to improve, share and recognise support for carers in health and social care service areas.

The accreditation criteria is broken down into five standards: understand, inform, identify, listen and support.

In order to gain accreditation, service areas complete a self-assessment tool and provide a portfolio of evidence proving they meet the criteria.

The portfolio is then put forward to the Carers Review Panel who approve the accreditation or provide constructive feedback on areas for improvement.

Angela Hughes, Assistant Director of Patient Experience at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: "I feel extremely proud that our Information and Support Centres throughout the Health Board and these two wards have received Carer Friendly Accreditation.

"I'd like to thank the staff involved in gaining these awards.

''Our staff work tirelessly to ensure that carers feel welcomed and supported, aligning with the work we are undertaking for John's Campaign.

''I hope that many more wards will receive this accreditation in the future."
