A ceremony was held at Barry Civic Offices this morning to commemorate Armed Forces Day.

The flag-raising ceremony was not open to the public due to Covid restrictions.

There were prayers and the National Anthems of Wales and the UK.

Armed Forces Day, is on Saturday 26 June and is an annual event celebrating the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vale of Glamorgan Mayor Jayne Norman said: "I would like to give a grateful thanks to all those who attended today, to mark this momentous occasion. Always in our hearts are the Armed Forces."

Vale MP Alun Cairns said: "It was great to support Armed Forces Day at the flag raising ceremony at the Civic Offices in Barry this morning.

"As always strongly supported by local veterans and the excellent RBL Barry."
