SPORTS teams at Palmerston Primary School are to be sponsored by Forces Fitness Ltd after teachers helped develop health, wellbeing and resilience sessions delivered by a military veteran.

Sean Molino, a former military physical training instructor within the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, has brought his fitness classes to more than 15,000 participants across Wales.

Created with support from Palmerston Primary School in Barry, the sessions aim is to combat the ever-growing rate of obesity in the UK, which is putting considerable strain on the NHS, by encouraging children away from computer screens and towards physical exercise.

Sessions have a positive impact on the health and fitness of attendees, making them more resilient to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

They focus on educating the attendee in easy to follow health and nutrition tips, with a blend of theory and practical activity taking place outdoors or in sports halls.

To celebrate visiting his 130th school, Sean has decided to sponsor Palmerston Primary's sports kits, the place where it all began.

Cllr Rachel Nugent-Finn, Vale of Glamorgan Council Member for Cadoc Ward, said: "My interest in Forces Fitness began a while ago.

"I could see Sean's dedication, unique skills and the overwhelming objective of getting young people, children, community groups and organisations motivated, involved and of course healthier.

"Investment into our own and our children's health, happiness and future is absolutely everything.

"As a previous Chair of the Healthy Living and Social Care Committee I have sat through and scrutinised many presentations about Adverse Childhood Experiences and their association with chronic diseases."

Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cadoc Ward Member and ex-Palmerston Primary Governor, said: "Physical exercise is now more important than ever as we are all spending more time indoors. It's not only good for the body, but fantastic for mental health too, particularly in relation to Adverse Childhood Experiences.

"This is a fantastic gesture from Mr Molino and one that is very much appreciated."
