West Quay Medical Centre to start vaccinating over 75s
West Quay Medical Centre on Hood Road has administered Covid vaccines to all its patients over 80 able to attend the clinic and will now move on to the over 75s.
The GP surgery has vaccinated over 700 patients to date, completing immunisations for priority group two, as set out by the Welsh Government, and aims to vaccinate priority group three by the end of next week.
West Quay Medical Centre business manager Gareth Thomas said this target was dependent on vaccine supply, but so far all supplies promised have been delivered on time.
"Vaccinating our patient community is a priority for us and at the moment on of the most important jobs we have as a surgery team," said Mr Thomas.
"We are all working tirelessly to ensure that we are able to vaccinate the first dose to as many patients as possible and the team are prepared to give up their weekends in order to achieve this.
"We have been very busy behind the scenes calling patients to book appointments and they've been relieved to have received our call."
Cardiff & Vale University Health Board is arranging vaccinations for the medical centre's patients over 70-74, Mr Thomas also said.
"Hopefully they are on track to meet the Welsh Government target of all those over 70 vaccinated by mid-February."
Last month the Welsh Government set out milestones, the first of which is to have offered Covid vaccines to all care home residents and staff; frontline health and social care staff; those 70 years of age and over; and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals by mid-February.
Vaccinating care homes residents in Barry began on 14 January, and as of today the Cardiff & Vale UHB has administered 61,883 vaccines – 1,921 of those yesterday.
