Want to commemorate war dead during lockdown? Donate to memorial bench, says Barry ex-soldier
This year's is to be a unique Remembrance Sunday in Barry, with a limited Cenotaph service attended by no more than 30 invited guests due to lockdown restrictions.
But Barry ex-soldier Rob Curtis says his memorial bench campaign is the perfect opportunity to commemorate the town's war dead.
Designed to replace three dilapidated benches on the roof of the old shelter in Blind Park (opposite the Cenotaph), the new benches will portray silhouetted images of world conflicts made from steel from along with poppies and the dove of peace (similar to the one pictured).
Each of the three benches will depict different scenes.
Mr Curtis, a Barry resident and former territorial army soldier, told Nub News:
"As you may already know, due to the Covid -19 pandemic, we are unable to commemorate Armistice and Remembrance Sunday in the usual manner, but want to ensure the sacrifice of our service men and women is not forgotten.
Therefore I hope you would consider donating to the gofundme page."
The campaign has so far raised £335 of its £2,200 target.
