Vale of Glamorgan Council is working in partnership with a host of third sector organisations to deliver free activity sessions for Vale residents aged 60 years and over.

With financial support from the Cardiff and Vale Public Health Team and Sport Wales, the Golden Pass programme aims to increase physical activity levels and access to sport and social opportunities, encouraging a behavioural change towards a more active lifestyle and enhancing the physical and mental wellbeing of participants.

Eligible participants can choose from a variety of activity sessions, ranging from badminton and paddle-ball, to Zumba and walking netball.

Upon successful signup to the scheme, participants will receive a golden pass in the post that can be exchanged for free access to eight activity sessions at a variety of community sporting facilities or a free two month pass for their local leisure centre.

Vale of Glamorgan residents aged 60 years and over, who take part in less than 150 minutes of physical activity per week can sign up to the scheme on the Vale of Glamorgan Council website:  https://www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/en/enjoying/Sports-and-Play/Sport-and-Physical-Activity/Active-Adults.aspx or by emailing [email protected].

Cllr Gwyn John, Vale of Glamorgan cabinet member for Leisure, Sport and Wellbeing, said: "Following the success of the Golden Pass Scheme in recent years, I'm delighted to see it return this Autumn.

"In addition to the physical health benefits gained by increasing activity levels, the project also brings social benefits, providing many opportunities to meet new people and socialise.

"I hope the scheme continues to inspire long term participation in community activities, and I would encourage anyone who's eligible for the scheme to sign up."
