Plans are in the pipeline to extend the Cadoxton community centre's food and drink facilities.

Local charity group, Cadog's Corner Development, is looking to build an additional cafe using a renovated shipping container.

The charity's aim is to further provide the community with 'healthy, affordable food, with education on food and nutrition'.

They have successfully run a 'pay as you feel' food project for the past year which they would like to extend by creating this additional building.

The shipping container cafe will support the existing Victoria Park Community Centre.

The application states that the converted shipping container will provide storage for food in cupboards, fridges and freezers, together with a cafe annexe behind the Community Centre.

The shop/cafe will be available when the Community Centre is being used by others and would be available for use by the Sports Hall as well.

Food will be supplied by Fare Share Cymru, an organisation who redistribute fresh in date surplus food to charities and community groups.

They already supply Victoria Park's Community Centre and Cadoxton Primary School with food.

Cadog's Corner Development Group have developed a 'community hub' with a commitment to targeting poverty issues.

The applications states that this development hopes to 'further enhance the existing facilities and reduce the limitation of the Community Centre when in use by others'.

The proposed design of the shipping container is considered sustainable and hopes to form 'a harmonious setting to its location'.

The container will be painted blue and there will be also be an outside seating area for the cafe.

The planning application is yet to be determined by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
