Vale of Glamorgan Council has invested £100,000 to improve the condition of Subway Road for pedestrians and vehicles.
After the road came under Council control earlier this year, the Highways Team set about carrying out a programme of refurbishment work during May.
This included filling potholes before the road was completely resurfaced, with the footpath also upgraded.
The road had previously been privately owned during which time its condition deteriorated. Improving it was seen as a priority for the Council as it provides a crucial link between Dock View Road and Barry Docks train station.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: "The Council's Highways Team regularly carries out road and pavement repair work throughout the County.
"We are currently working through a schedule of improvements, but this was considered an urgent matter due to its important location near Barry Docks train station.
"The work, which involved major upgrading of both the road and footpath, will benefit pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, making their journeys along Subway Road more comfortable."
Residents can make the Council aware of potholes that need attention by reporting them through the website.
