Old Harbour and Watch Tower Bay will have access restrictions this week (Monday 26 July) for the safe removal of an abandoned vessel on the harbour wall at the Old Harbour at Barry for approximately one week.

Both Morning Dawn and Alisa have been left in the harbour for some time and both are in a state of disrepair.

One of the ships will be broken up within the harbour and removed by a specialist company this week.

It is currently planned to tow the other to another harbour during the high tides at the end of August, where it will either be sold or dismantled.

"Unfortunately, the ship is causing damage to the harbour wall and the local environment and therefore has to be removed," said a spokesperson for the Council.

"The owners of the boat have been asked to remove it on numerous occasions but due to the risk to public safety and the possibility of environmental damage the Council has needed to arrange disposal.

"The harbour and beach will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."
