ONS News: 45 Coronavirus Deaths Recorded in Barry

New figures released today (Friday, 12 June) by the Office for National Statistics show that 45 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded between 1 March 2020 and 31 May 2020 in Barry.

The figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) are the only statistics which show deaths at a hyper-local level for people who have contracted Covid-19.

This is an increase of 23 since the last data release from the ONS in May which can be found here.

The full breakdown of deaths caused by the disease in the local area is:

  • Barry West - 15
  • Palmerston - 8
  • Gibbonsdown - 6
  • Barry Dyfan & Illtyd - 4
  • Barry East - 6

• Barry Island - 6

In the Rhoose & Airport postcode, another four have also been recorded.

These records are from deaths occurring in between 1 March 2020 and 31 May 2020 and registered by 6 June 2020.

The figures for the wider Vale of Glamorgan area showed that only five new cases were recorded on Thursday from a cumulative total of 677.

The latest total deaths recorded by the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is 256.
