A Barry restaurant has been voted into the finals of the British Takeaway Awards, and could earn the title of the best takeaway in Wales.

Mint Room Indian restaurant, located on Main Street, has been voted into the regional finals and is in with a chance of winning £1,000 cash, £200 per site to spend at Just Eat shop and an exclusive British Takeaway Awards trophy.

But owner Shah Uddin says beating the four other Welsh nominees would help "put Barry on the map".

"It just raises the profile of the restaurant, and of Barry," Shah told Nub News.

"We take pride in our cooking and make sure everything that leaves the shop is high quality and piping hot.

"Everyone in the team plays a part in making sure that happens," he said.

The organisers describe The British Takeaway Awards as "the Oscars of the takeaway world" and "a place where we celebrate Britain's best local takeaways and the people behind them."

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 6 September.
