Four more counties in south Wales will go into lockdown from 6PM on Tuesday, leaving Cardiff and the Vale encircled by areas with tight COVID restrictions.

People from Merthyr Tydfil, Bridgend, Blaenau Gwent and Newport (in addition to Rhondda Cynon Taf) will not be able to enter or leave those areas (with a few exceptions). Social venues will need to shut by 23:00 every night. Indoor meetings with people from other households will be banned.

Though case numbers in the Vale remain relatively low (23 positive cases in the last seven days), fears of a second wave hitting Barry have never been higher. Here's everything you should be doing to prevent that from happening:

  1. Only meet indoors (publicly or privately) with people from your household or extended household if you have formed one. Meetings or gatherings indoors even within your extended household must be limited to 6 people (not including any children aged under 11).
  1. Do not gather outdoors in groups larger than 30. Children under 11 are not included.
  1. During outdoor meetings with groups fewer than 30 people, maintain social distancing. This means: wash your hands regularly, stay two metres away and do not attend if you have COVID symptoms.
  1. Wear a face mask in public spaces. Children under 11 do not have to.
  1. If you own a business, adopt and strictly impose the measures found here. If a customer, adhere to the the measures adopted.
  1. If you have coronavirus symptoms, self-isolate and get a test.
