A man was arrested and detained in Cardiff after being accused of attempting to murder his girlfriend on January 30th, 2021.
Stephen Gibbs, a 45-year-old flooring worker, has denied the incident to which the police arrived at 10pm at the start of the year, when still in lockdown.
The accused's attempted murder of his girlfriend, 49-year-old Emma Brown, comes after she won £5.5million in the lottery three years ago and was put down to his increasing jealousy.
The couple apparently celebrated the win with fireworks and Emma had been sharing and donating to numerous local GoFundMe pages, which she shared with her friends on her Facebook site.
Although she decided not to have her win publicised, Gibbs tried stabbing Brown - who quit her job after the big win - in the face in their luxury detached £700,000 cottage in Lakeside, Barry, following 11 years together.
The pair don't have any children, and previously owned a home in another part of Barry, which they rented after Brown won the money.
Brown, previously a deputy manager working for aircraft handling firm, Servisair, suffered injuries to her face, stomach and arms, and required surgery after the attack, after being carried out of her home on a stretcher.
'The place was swarming with cops and paramedics," said an anonymous local, the Mirror Online reported.
"I counted 14 vehicles outside the property - and all hell was breaking loose," they continued.
"Emma is a really popular girl and has lots of friends. She has been a barmaid in plenty of pubs and is a very friendly person, she is a normal, outgoing, everyday sort of human," a friend of Brown's added.
Gibbs, whose address was given as the home he shares with Brown, then appeared before Cardiff Crown Court via video link on March 2nd, 2021, speaking softly and wearing a grey sweatshirt.
Judge Daniel Williams scheduled a three day trial for Gibbs, remanding him in custody in the interim and instructing him to prepare for a defence.
Wales Online reported that Williams told Gibbs, "You have pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. The prosecution seek a trial and that will take place on September 13th."
"You must set out a defence statement setting out what your defence is to that charge," Williams continued.
