Lockdown will continue across Barry and the rest of Wales until at least 29 January, First Minister Mark Drakeford has announced.

This announcement comes after the Welsh Government held its first review of the measures put in place a week before Christmas.

The First Minister said that the Welsh Government will be strengthening the alert level four measures in three main areas: supermarkets, schools, and the workplace.

"First, we will work with major supermarkets and retailers to make sure people are safe when they go shopping," said Mr Drakeford.

"I want to see at least the same level of protection today as in the early days of the pandemic.

"Those who work and shop in supermarkets need the confidence of knowing that numbers are carefully and consistently controlled and that all other measures are in place to keep us safe.

"The second area where we will look to strengthen protection is in the workplace.

"The new strain of the virus is so much more contagious that we have to look again at the defences in place to keep workplaces safe, working with employers and trade unions to do so.

"The third area is schools and colleges. Most young people will now be taught online until 29 January.

"Unless there is a significant reduction in cases of coronavirus by the next review, this will continue until the February half term.

"Vulnerable learners and children of critical workers will continue to have face-to-face learning and childcare remains open."
