A road closure has been put in place in Barry on Plymouth Road as heavy rain has caused the flooding of the road and adjacent play area.

South Wales Police said: ''Road closure in place at Plymouth Road Barry island, where flooding has caused several drain covers to collapse, and vehicles to break down."

Members of the public have reported that cars had been getting stuck in the area.

The heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted to carry on for the rest of the day and throughout the evening according to the Met Office weather report.
