A Go Fund Me page has been set up by a local resident to help create a Barry Town United fan mural in the team's home stadium, Jenner Park.

Leon Ford, the organiser, explained to Nub News why he has started the fundraising venture.

He said: ''I'm simply trying raise the profile of our beloved, local football club by involving fans in something that they can feel a part-of every time they look towards the clubhouse on match days.

''All of the funds are going towards the design and manufacture costs and our friends at Euroflag have been amazingly supportive of the cause.

''In a town of fifty-five thousand people, I find it hard to understand why we have not historically had bigger attendances, especially as we are doing so well in Wales' highest division and we qualified for the UEFA Europa League during the summer.

''I'm trying to educate fans of non-local clubs that football isn't a television programme.

''It becomes part of you the second you walk through the turnstiles at Jenner Park.

''Just another 200 fans in the stadium every week will have a dramatic impact on the running of the club.

''We're working towards this target increase within two seasons by implementing ideas such as this mural flag, as well as leaflet drops in the new estates, pub discounts to patrons in club clothing and the new talk show and podcast on Bro Radio, hosted by the fans.

''Overall, the general feeling around the club is amazing.

''To be back in the Welsh top-flight simply due to the hard work of a few individuals is an achievement that the whole town should celebrate.

''I'm just doing my bit to raise the profile of the club, just like everyone else.''

The Go Fund Me page details what the mural will display and how to get involved. It states: ''As the club reaches new heights and gains more supporters, we thought we'd make Jenner Park a bit more homely by creating a fan's mural on the boring white wall under the clubhouse.

''All donations are sincerely appreciated but there are 100 spaces for supporters or businesses who would like their name displayed on the bottom of the 97 ft x 11.5 ft banner.

''£25 will not only get your name on the banner, but you will also receive a miniature version of the banner to keep or display in a place of your choice.

''Note that the smaller banner may have to be changed slightly in order to fit onto a standard flag.

''Once we get 100 names at £25 each, we'll close the campaign and go to print.

''Interest is currently high, so I envisage a short time to the printing stage.''
