The current ban of all dogs on Cold Knap Beach between 1 May and 30 September is set to be removed.

If approved during a full Vale of Glamorgan Council meeting on Monday (8 March), the decision will allow dogs on the beach all year round.

"This is great news if it goes ahead," a dog walker told Nub News. "Mine loves playing in the water, especially in the summer."

Dog walking has been prohibited on the beach since 2019, when a Public Spaces Protection Order was imposed following complaints of irresponsible dog ownership and a lengthy consultation.

If the Council approves the motion on Monday, dogs will be allowed on the beach unleashed.

Dog owners will still be expected to clear up their pet's faeces.

The dog ban in place on Penarth seafront will also be rescinded.

The seasonal dog ban imposed on Whitmore Bay Beach will remain in force. Whitmore Bay Gardens/promenade area will now only require dogs to be on leads all year round.

A Vale of Glamorgan spokesperson told Nub News:

"The Knap and Penarth are not considered bathing beaches so there isn't considered to be a need to ban dogs in the summer."
