Demolition of former Whitmore High building begins
Demolition of the former Whitmore High School building has begun, construction group Morgan Sindall has revealed.
Pupils and staff moved into the new state-of-the-art building last Thursday, four months ahead of schedule.
Posting images to Twitter, Morgan Sindall said that demolition was "well underway", with the Science Labs, DT rooms and Drama class stripped.
The new building cost £30.5 million and accommodates 1,100 pupils on the 11,000-meter square site.
"Flexibility and floor space was key, and we focussed on those educational areas," Steve Langford Project Director for Morgan Sindall told Nub News.
"The old building was fragmented, and when you walk into the new one you'll notice how it flows.
"Having two car parks allowed us to get the work done ahead of schedule."
