The Vale of Glamorgan Council says it is committed to investigating sexual harassment in relation to its schools, after St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School was listed on the 'Everyone's Invited' report.

The report allowed pupils to anonymously report their experiences of sexual harassment.

Both St Cyres and Stanwell Schools in Penarth and Cowbridge Comprehensive School were also included on the list, which includes almost 3,000 schools in the UK.

The precise nature of what was reported in relation to the Vale of Glamorgan schools is currently unknown. Nub News is investigating the matter.

"The Vale of Glamorgan Council takes allegations of this type extremely seriously," said a Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesperson.

"Every pupil has the right to attend school without the threat of harassment, but sadly pupils across Wales and beyond have recently reported experiences of this nature.

"As a Council, we are committed to investigating the issue in relation to our schools and will take all necessary steps to address it."

Since the project began, over 51,000 anonymous testimonies have been submitted.

Of those 2,962 schools named, 2,556 are secondary schools and 406 are primary schools.

On its website, Everyone's Invited defines rape culture as: "when attitudes, behaviours and beliefs in society have the effect of normalising and trivialising sexual violence.

"The act of sharing their story allows many survivors a sense of relief, catharsis, empowerment, and gives them a feeling of community and hope."

Jeremy Miles MS, Minister for Education and the Welsh Language, said he was "deeply concerned" by the report.

"Any form of sexual harassment or abuse is totally unacceptable and should not be tolerated," he said.

"All education settings have a legal duty to ensure that children and young people are shown respect and have access to a learning environment in which they feel comfortable and safe."

Mr Miles also outlined how the Welsh Government would investigate the issue and improve support for those affected.

"I will be requesting Estyn to conduct a review into culture and processes in schools to help protect and support young people better.

While the findings of that review will play an important role in supporting settings and informing Welsh Government policy, I recognise that we cannot await the outcome of that review before we act," he said. "Whilst the problem is extremely unlikely to be limited to the schools named in the Everyone's Invited report, we will write to the schools identified to offer support and advice on delivering relationships education. "Every school, and Local Authority, should have a designated lead responsible for supporting learners with relationships and sexuality education. I have asked officials to establish whether that is currently the case and will update Members in due course."
