Cardiff Bus have announced that they will be operating a double decker service from east Cardiff to Barry Island from 26 July to the end of August as one of their additional summer routes.

The 'Island Flyer' route will pass through St Mellons, Llanrumney, Tremorfa, Cardiff Bay and Llandough before reaching Barry Island.

The first passengers will arrive at Barry Island seafront at 10:17am. The last will leave at 6:40pm.

Adults will pay £5.50, under 16s £3.60. An £8 family ticket (groups of up to 5 people, max 2 adults and minimum 1 child) will be available.

The route was launched as part of the bus service's 'Summer Days Out' initiative, which will also provide additional journeys to Penarth and Cardiff Bay.

The Barry Island route is being marketed as the perfect travel option for a beach day out.

"Barry Island is firm favourite with families and those who enjoy the beach," said Cardiff Bus.

"Enjoy sandy beaches and family amusements, discover the places featured in the hit TV show Gavin and Stacey or relax in one of the many cafés and restaurants."
