Despite launching last week, the Memo team has been forced to suspend screenings until further notice

MEMO Arts Centre hosted its first 'Big Screen Cinema' in eight months last week - but the latest Welsh Government announcement has halted the continuation of the programme. Thanks to donations from the public and funding from Barry Town Council , the Arts Council of Wales , the Vale of Glamorgan Council , Film Hub Wales , the centre was set to start showing films again as part of the 'Big Screen Bub-L'. To celebrate the launch of Bub-L cinema MAC hosted a special screening of Bohemian Rhapsody on Wednesday evening, which was funded by Film Hub Wales. "The re-opening of our cinema went really well," said a spokesperson for Barry Memo Arts Centre. "We were looking forward to programming lots of films for Christmas. "We're not sure when we'll be able to hold more cinema events due to the announcement." The screenings re-started following an online audience survey on programming and Welsh Government advice on safety measures. Following First Minister Mark Drakeford's announcement, however, the cinema will not be allowed to run for the foreseeable future. When open, the Bub-L programme will include new events for parents and baby screenings, relaxed screenings, family and special take away activities to enjoy and experience the big screen in safe socially distanced bubbles. Accessibility, affordability and creative excellence is the priority for all, say staff at the venue.
