The bank holiday sunshine brought visitors to Barry Island today.

Highs of 22°C and clear skies saw beachgoers flock to Whitmore Bay.

Harbour Road car park began filling up early this morning, and by midday was almost at capacity.

Nell's Point car park was closed at 11.20am, once it was full.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council Enforcement Team were on patrol and fined those breaking parking restrictions.

"Parking on zig-zags, near a pedestrian crossing is dangerous as well as illegal," said a spokesperson.

"The driver of this vehicle has been issued a £70 Penalty Charge Notice for this offence at Barry Island this morning."

South Wales Police have been conducting extra patrols in the area, as part of Operation Elstree.

Until Tuesday morning, a Section 35 is in place to prevent anti-social behaviour (ASB) Barry Island.

Section 35 notices give officers the power to move people on from an area if they are acting in an anti-social manner.

Chief Inspector Bella Rees said: "The vast majority of people who visit our beautiful coastal areas behave appropriately and in accordance with the regulations.

"But we will not tolerate the behaviour of a minority who consume excess alcohol and ruin the quiet enjoyment for law-abiding citizens.

"Anti-social behaviour and criminality has a detrimental impact on our communities and we will continue to work with our partners to proactively patrol key areas to prevent such activity."
