Barry Stations See Large Increases in Passenger Usage

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has released data on passengers passing through stations throughout the UK. The figures show a large increase in station usage for Barry Island station.

In the period 2017/2018 Barry Island station saw 753,404 users enter and exit the station. This figure has since risen to 867,598 over 2018/2019 period, which is a change of 15.2%.

It has also risen in the overall rankings of Welsh station usage from 11th to 10th most used.

It sits above the three other stations operating in Barry, that also saw more passengers entering and exiting their platforms over the year.

The other Barry Stations:

  • Barry (18th most used in Wales with an 8.6% rise in passengers)

• Cadoxton (42nd most used in Wales with a 3.0% rise in passengers)

• Barry Docks (47th most used in Wales with a 12.6% rise in passengers) The Barry Island stop is the most used station in the Vale of Glamorgan. Barry residents have regularly reported issues with the busy nature of the train carriages, especially during peak times of travel. TFL have said they will be making improvements throughout 2020 to tackle problems like this. Statistics for 223 stations across Wales have been recorded. Comparatively, the most used station in Wales, Cardiff Central, had 14,204,684 passengers enter and exit. The least passenger heavy station was Sugar Loaf which saw only 708 passengers over the year. 70 stations across wales saw a reduction in their station usage.
