Barry police officers will be joining in the community spirit this weekend for the town's first Pride celebrations.

South Wales Police has been working with event organisers to ensure the safety of those celebrating inclusivity and diversity at Barry Pride this Saturday.

The event is expected to welcome thousands of visitors to High Street in Barry to enjoy live music, entertainment, stalls and more.

Officers from Barry including PCSOs, special constables and the new local policing inspector, will be taking part in the parade which starts at 11am.

The reassurance engagement vehicle (TREV) will be at the event where officers will be providing information on recruitment and crime prevention advice.

Barry Sergeant Julie Odgers said: "We are delighted to be part of the first Pride event here in Barry.

''We welcomed the opportunity to contribute to what should be a memorable day for both the LGBT community and the residents of Barry.

"Officers are thrilled to show their support in the parade and it is wonderful to see so many houses along the route already decorated for the event.

''We have worked closely with the organisers of Barry Pride and the Vale of Glamorgan Council to help ensure everyone enjoys themselves safely."

There will be a road closure in place on High Street from its junction with Market Street until the junction of East Street from 7am to 8pm on Saturday, September 21.

A stage is due to be located at the junction of Island Road with Queen Street preventing access to vehicles from its junction onto High Street.
