Barry Island tops list of most popular UK beach huts

Barry Island beach huts are the most popular in the UK, according to a new report.

The loans team at money.co.uk have created the Beach Hut Britain Report to find the most popular beach hut in the country.

Research undertaken by the team showed that Barry Island topped the list of the most searched for UK beach huts.

The top 10 were as follows:

  1. Barry Island, South Wales
  2. West Wittering, Chichester
  3. Sandbanks beach, Dorset
  4. Camber Sands beach, East Sussex
  5. Hastings beach, East Sussex
  6. Woolacombe sands, North Devon
  7. Bournemouth pier, Bournemouth
  8. Boscombe beach, Bournemouth
  9. Avon beach, Dorset
  10. Southwold beach, East Suffolk

Barry Island is also the only Welsh beach to make the top 10.

The 24 beach huts at Whitmore Bay come in two different sizes, 2.5m x 1.8m and 2.4m x 2.5m. The larger huts have access to running water and all have electrical sockets.

This research has also revealed the most expensive beach huts in the UK, by comparing the average weekly rental cost. The priciest location was at Wells beach in Norfolk, with an average weekly rent of £515.

Comparatively, during peak season Barry Island's small beach huts are £19 a day, totalling £133 for seven days, while the larger huts are £32.50 a day equating to £227.50 over seven days.
