Two drug dealers who were found asleep in a car in Barry by police officers have been jailed.

Police were called to Y Rhodfa, Barry, on March 19, at 8.10am, following a report that three people were unconscious in a black car.

Officers approached the Vauxhall Corsa where the occupants were sleeping and saw through the window wraps of drugs inside a container which was resting on the knee of a man in the driver's seat.

A search was carried out of the three occupants and the car.

Parbaj Ali, aged 38, of Cardiff, who was the man asleep in the driver's seat, was searched and inside his coat officers found 6.8 grams of heroin, 21 diazepam tablets and £640 in cash. Digital scales, mobile phones and a hammer were found in the Vauxhall Corsa. Mobile phones found charging in the car showed bulk texts which were consistent with drug related activities.

Ali was jailed for three years at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, July 12.

Neil Oakley, aged 39, of Cardiff, who was in the back of the car, was sentenced to three years and 10 months in jail.

Both men pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drug – heroin and possession with intent to supply class A drug – cocaine. Detective Sergeant Julian Kerslake said: "These defendants were seen by members of the community who reported their suspicions to the police. By giving us the information, we were able to attend and arrest these individuals. "Tackling illegal drug supply on our streets is a priority for South Wales Police as this kind of criminal activity has a hugely detrimental impact on our communities. We are determined to disrupt all those involved in the supply of drugs and ensure offenders are brought to justice. "Information from the community is vital in our fight against drugs and I would urge anyone with any information on drug dealing to please tell us or Crimestoppers what they know." You can report any concerns on drug supply to 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
