Barry's Coastguard team were called out last night to rescue two swimmers who had got into difficulty off Watchtower Bay.

The team were paged at 6.28pm alongside Barry Dock Lifeboats and rescue helicopter 187.

The swimmers managed to self rescue but were stranded on the rocks.

With the Barry coastguard team and the rescue helicopter in attendance, the inshore lifeboat managed to recover the casualties and transfer them to the all-weather lifeboat.

The casualties were taken to Barry Harbour and handed over to the local coastguard team.

The inshore lifeboat helm John McAlister said: "If you are going swimming please check weather conditions and the tide and make sure you are visible to others."

If you see anybody in difficulty phone 999 and ask for the coastguard.
