Barry RNLI and Coastguard were called to assist five people in difficulty in the water at the Old Harbour this evening.

The crews were paged at 6.45pm today – Barry Coastguard received communications that one of the five was unresponsive.

Medical assistance was given until the Welsh ambulance service arrived on scene.

Inshore lifeboat helm John McAllister said it was a great multi agency effort with a swift response from all involved.

All the causalities were taken to University Hospital Wales.

If you do see anyone in difficulty please phone 999 and ask for the coastguard.
