Barry Business Destroyed by Fire Looks for Fresh Start

By The Editor 10th Dec 2019

An application has been made to replace the garage that was destroyed in a fire on Robins Lane in Barry.

The planning application states that they would make alterations to the garage/ workshop/ tyre sales as well as convert the first floor storage area to a coffee shop.

The first floor was completely destroyed and the damage spread to the ground floor when a fire broke out on the 19th of April.

The Fire Brigade deemed the building unsafe after the incident.

Barry Town Council have objected to the proposed plans for the following reasons:

  1. The proposed development will be detrimental to the residential amenity enjoyed by local residents by virtue of the noise and general disturbance by the activity.
  1. The proposed development is unsatisfactory in highway and pedestrian terms due to the increase in
on-street parking; lack of pedestrian safety due to the vehicular access points into the building; and the potential storage of tyres on the public highway and footpaths. The application will be decided on by a planning officer with the possibility of it being taken for committee if it is called in.
