A Barry brother and sister with the rare genetic syndrome 2q23.1 microdeletion have just completed a 31-day exercise challenge to raise money for ValePlus.

The condition causes Rebecca and Michael Reynolds to have autism and epilepsy, but it has not stopped them from exercising for two hours (each) everyday in March.

"I've done Zumba, body combat on Zoom, gone on the exercise bike, some walking and dancing," Rebecca tells Nub News.

"And I've done lots of walking and some cycling as well," chimes in Michael.

"I think they've motivated each other because there's a bit of underlying competitiveness," says their mother, Rachel.

They have so far raised £420 for ValePlus, the disability day care centre Rebecca attends.

The duo did so as part of the charity's March fundraising drive after suffering a hit on their income streams during the pandemic.

Attendees have been exercising every day to raise a total of over £7,000 between them.

Sarah Philipps, Charity Administrator, said the funds will make a huge difference to the way the charity is able to function.

Off the back of the fundraising drive, they are arranging days out, designing ValePlus hoodies, buying Easter treats, organising discos and purchasing outdoor picnic tables.

"Rebecca and Michael have been incredible during this challenge," says Sarah.

"We are so proud of all our challenges and it has been incredible to be a part of this amazing team.

"Each person has a story as to why they wanted to do this, from supporting ValePlus, to keeping motivated and one of our challengers is even doing it to help with her diabetes.

"Not only have we been able to raise an incredible amount of money for ValePlus, but also, the impact that it has had on people's well-being and mental health has been overwhelming."
