NRW Drop in Session for Plan Expansion at Castleland Community Centre:There is a scrap metal and wood recycling business alongside the incinerator at berth 31, called JM Envirofuels Ltd (we refer to them as JML) They have recently been supplying the incinerator with waste wood since it began running. They have now applied to NRW to accept other types of non-hazardous waste, including metal, glass and plasterboard. This event is an information session you can attend ANY TIME BETWEEN 1.30pm and 7.30pm THIS THURSDAY to ask questions and find out what is going on with this site.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel 'I am alone and I am hung in chains' at Barry Yacht Club:
How revelatory is Robert Howlett's photograph of Brunel's life, work and personality? How did it come about? How does it relate to other photographs and paintings of him and his immediate family? Do his own writings and the words of others suggest a different Brunel? John Cooper, (SS Great Britain Trust), uses his background as historian and art historian and years of experience lecturing in national museums to discuss the authentic images in paintings and photographs, relating them to Brunel's character and achievements. The Compass Bar will open at 7.30pm, ready for the talk to begin at 8pm. Mantrailing at Romily Park:Mantrailing; where pet dogs and their owners can work together to find a specific 'missing' person. This sport is an amazing combination of both mental and physical stimulation for dog and owner. You learn to read your dog's body language as they learn to work the scent trail. This is the perfect sport for dogs with reactivity as all the dogs are worked individually. All abilities are welcome, no introduction courses needed, the trails are tailored to the individual. Cost: £10/£20 a session
January Book Club at Whitmore Bay:
So, new year, new trial format! For the first few months of 2020, we are going to have two authors feature each month. Choose to read one, the other or both. There will be a recommended book from each author, but feel free to choose any of their books that appeal to you. For January, the theme is 'mystery'. Wilkie Collins is attributed with writing the first mystery book in the UK in the 19th Century. His novel 'The Woman in White' was groundbreaking in its day. Our second author this month is Robert Galbraith (AKA: JK Rowling) with 'A Cuckoo's Calling'. New Year Fire Ceremony at St Francis Millenium Centre:Based on an ancient Native American Fire Ceremony of Transformation, this powerful ritual has become a new year tradition as,we embrace the year ahead. You are invited to join us as we weave this ancient wild and exhilarating ritual with drumming, visioning and chant.
