Barry Battered by Storm Dennis: Flooded Parks and Roof Slats Smash Up Cars
Over the weekend, the range of elements from Storm Dennis hit Barry in full force. Wind gusts blew roof slats off houses and into cars whilst flooding engulfed the parks and fields.
The temperamental nature of the Storm was on full display as the town went from sunshine and blue skies to gale force winds and waterlogging.
The evening was when the most severe damage was recorded. Houses in the Pendine Close area of Barry were pictured with parts of their roofs missing and cars were damaged from where the debris had landed.
South Wales Fire and Rescue said: ''At approximately 6:37 pm on Sunday 16th February 2020, we received reports of a dangerous structure on Pendine Close, Barry.
''Crews from Barry station attended the scene and worked to make the surrounding property safe.
''The incident concluded at approximately 7:33 pm.''
Images and video footage circulated on social media with one resident reporting damage to three houses and three cars.
Others have cited similar incidents across Barry that were reported in the evening.
Porthkerry park also had swathes of land engulfed by the flooding and pathways to the beach were impassable with benches fully submerged by water.
Whitmore and Jackson's bay are pictured in the sunshine that broke up the Storm at midday. Despite the windy conditions, clear skies brought a flurry of visitors to the beach before the storm took another turn in the evening.
The weather warning has been reduced from amber to yellow for wind today and forecasts suggest that the storm will move on soon. However, days of heavy rain are still on their way.
