Reign Miller-Hardy - a 12-month-old baby with the rare disease HLH XLP1 - has found a stem cell match, a family member has told Nub News.
A massive drive for donors has resulted in a 9/10 match for the baby, meaning the donation is unlikely to be rejected.
The family are cautiously optimistic, understanding they have a difficult few months ahead.
"We are overwhelmed, obviously really happy. Reign's birthday was Wednesday so what a perfect birthday present," says Reign's great-aunt Lisa Evans. She organised a sponsored walk for Reign last month which raised £1,100 and helped boost donations.
"But it's not quick fix. He is going to be really poorly. He has as really intense round of chemo booked in for 9th-15th Nov and then the transplant on the 16th.
"Then after that we won't know for another 18 months if it has worked or not so it's not over yet," she added.
"The donor is confidential but we cannot express how grateful we are to them along with everyone who has supported us and signed up to the register. We hope we've raised awareness of the importance of signing up because there are still so many people desperately waiting for a match."
In a Facebook post, Reign's mother Ashley Miller expressed her emotions:
"I think I am meant to be happy and relieved but all I'm feeling is fear and emptiness."
Reign's parents have been told their baby has an 75-85% chance of survival.
