The family of Reign Miller-Hardy - a 12-month-old baby with the rare disease HLH XLP1 – are "remaining positive" after his stem cell transplantation.
Lisa Evans, Reign's great-aunt, told Nub News that he had four sessions of stem cell transplantation during the course of the week.
Doctors were also able to save some of Reign's own healthy T cells to put in along with the donor cells.
"He's overall responding brilliantly although having side-effects of chemotherapy and the transplant but he's still smiling and staying strong," said Lisa.
"We will know in a few weeks how well he's responding to the transplant but so far so good.
"Mum and Dad are taking things day by day but are remaining positive.
"Reign is still receiving blood and platelets transfusions when required and still remains in a "bubble" to reduce the risk of infection due to him having no immune system at the moment.
"I'm incredibly proud of reign he's so strong and still smiling," she said.
A massive drive for donors resulted in finding a 9/10 match for Reign, meaning the donation is unlikely to be rejected.
"We are incredibly thankful to the donor and still urge people to sign up if they are eligible for stem cell and blood donations," said Lisa.
