Representatives from the military, Vale of Glamorgan Council and Welsh Assembly congregated outside the Civic Offices for a flag-raising ceremony to mark Armed Forces Week.

Among those present were the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Council Leader Neil Moore, Deputy Leader Lis Burnett, Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Eddie Williams, Vaughan Gething AM, Jane Hutt AM, Andrew RT Davies AM, Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, representing Barry Town Council, and Penarth Town Mayor, Angela Thomas.

Captain Oliver Richards and Squadron Leader Hefyn Jones attended from RAF St Athan, David Green from the Royal British Legion, together with representatives from the Merchant Navy.

A number of Armed Forces Veterans were also among the crowd.

At 10 am, an RAF Honour Guard marched onto the building forecourt on Holton Road.

Cllr Christine Cave, Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, delivered a speech, which was followed by a prayer from the Mayor's Consort, Alan Cave.

The RAF contingent then hoisted the flag before those assembled sang the British and Welsh national anthems.

Cllr Williams said: "As a Council, we are proud to raise the Armed Forces Flag to show our support for those both past and present who have served in the military.

"It goes without saying that these individuals do a difficult and often dangerous job for the benefit of their Country and deserve our sincerest thanks for that effort."
