Staff at Castleland Community Centre say the first instance of vandalism at the location in over 10 years is "disheartening".

A post on the community centre's Facebook page included CCTV footage of a group of boys running and kicking the door.

One boy then appears to throw a stone at the door, which smashes the glass.

"Sad to report that on Sunday Dec 6th at around 15:30 a group of 10-13 year olds decided to needlessly vandalise the community centre," read the Facebook post.

"This is the first instance of vandalism at the centre in over 10 years and is really disheartening to see, especially during a period of time when we are trying our best to keep our community services going in spite of external difficulties.

"We don't know the reasoning for such senseless behaviour, or why our centre was the target, we just want people to know there is a large amount of work and cost that goes into maintaining a centre such as ours, and now comes an additional concern and financial responsibility of adding anti vandalism measures to our building.

"This is now being dealt with by the police who have identified the main offender and I just hope that any of the other parents who see this and recognise the other children, try and remind them that there are consequences to these actions and this type of behaviour harms a lot of people in a lot of different ways."

Barry Nub News has approached South Wales Police for comment, and is awaiting a response.
