Rhys Watkins, 33 and Rachael Heywood, 39, were stopped by officers carrying out a routine stop and check when they were travelling along Port Road in Barry shortly after 11.00 pm on Sunday, May 31st.

Following a search, both were arrested and charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine.

At Cardiff Crown Court on Friday (July 10th) both Watkins and Heywood entered guilty pleas to their offences.

Watkins, from Barry, was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison and Heywood, also from Barry, received a sentence of five years and seven months.

Detective Inspector Sarah Trigg of Barry Organised Crime Unit, said: "The sentences handed down to these two people should serve as a warning to others who peddle drugs in our communities that we remain vigilant, will make arrests and will bring people before the Courts.

"There is no place for those who bring misery to our communities and their actions will not be tolerated."

Anyone who has information about the supply of drugs in the community should call us on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111. In an emergency call 999.
